A hedgehog house is one part of a welcoming garden. This guide helps you prepare a location and understand when access for maintenance is appropriate. It does not guarantee that a hedgehog will move in.
Before buying: compare practical details
Check whether the house arrives assembled, what tools are required and how you will access the interior when it is empty. Compare wall thickness and construction without treating them as a tested insulation rating. Our NatureCrafts wooden hedgehog house is a kit with 15 mm walls, a transparent coating and a hinged roof.
Where should a hedgehog house stand?
Choose a quiet, shaded, dry position with an accessible entrance facing away from prevailing weather. Dry leaves can provide nesting material. Leave an occupied house undisturbed.
When and how should it be cleaned?
Only clean after the animal has left. BUND Naturschutz recommends hot water and a brush, no chemical cleaners, and complete drying before fresh nesting material is added. Wear gloves.
Questions about the NatureCrafts house
Is it a ready-made house?
No. It is supplied as a self-assembly kit with fastening hardware. Use a screwdriver and follow the enclosed instructions.
Does the coating make placement unimportant?
No. Keep the house in a sheltered location with good drainage. We do not claim a measured insulation improvement or guaranteed occupancy.
